Oral Cancer Research & Treament

Dr. Haberkorn became focused on the prevention and treatment of oral cancer after losing his sister to oral cancer early in his career. After years of offering oral cancer screenings and referrals to various providers to treat the disease, he became invested in doing more for his patients, with the hope of saving lives through early detection. Dr. Haberkorn was recently on the PQI Oncology Podcast to discuss his experience and current research and work with oral cancer patients. Click here to listen.

In 2023 Dr. Haberkorn founded Beaufort Oral Oncology Medicine and Laser Therapy (BOOM LT, LLC). While actively incorporating prevention and treatment methods using laser therapy into his practice, he is also deeply involved in several ongoing research projects on oral cancer. He is currently continuing his education at the University of Florida’s Department of Oral Oncology and Oral Medicine and partnering with Mayo Clinic and Harvard to better understand oral cancer prevention and treatment as well as patient support and outcomes. He is particularly passionate about bringing this kind of care to rural communities, often underserved in the cancer prevention and treatment space.

Dr. Haberkorn is certified in VELscope technology, a handheld scope tool that increases the ability to see and identify abnormal tissue in the mouth, including cancer and other abnormalities. The tool significantly increases the chances of early detection and prevention, and the exam can be completed in less than two minutes.

In addition to these exams, the AI-powered Straticyte test performed on a biopsy of a patient diagnosed with oral pre-cancer can help determine the patient’s five-year cancer risk. Click here to learn more about Straticyte.
